Eleanora Duse was an acclaimed Italian theater actress, known internationally for her talent. I learned of her from my godmother Eva La Guillienne, who wrote a book about Ms. Duse entitled 'The Mystic in the Theater'. Her career mostly predated the era of cinema - Cenere is the only film she ever appeared in.
For many years I searched to find a copy so that I could compose a musical score that would capture the emotion I feel each time I watch it, and to give it a timeless qualtiy through music.
Besides my godmother, I was inspired to do this score by my mother, the actress Katherine Yorke, to whom this music is dedicated.

IRON JAWED ANGELS
Katja von Garnier's "Iron Jawed Angels" tells the remarkable and little-known story of a group of passionate and dynamic young women, led by Alice Paul (Hilary Swank) and her friend Lucy Burns (Frances O'Connor), who put their lives on the line to fight for American women's right to vote.
Katja chose Richard's song Vision (O Euchari in Leta Via) from his album VISION: THE MUSIC OF HILDEGARD von BINGEN to be part of her wonderful Golden-Globe winning film.
VISUAL FUTURIST: the Art and Life of Syd Mead
Winner of the 2006 Audience Award for best documentary at Dances With Films festival; this documentary, chronicles the life of legendary futuristic artist/designer Syd Mead. Syd's beautiful designs are instantly recognized in such films as Tron, Blade Runner, 2010 and Aliens. Richard was asked by indy filmmaker Joaquin Montalvan to compose a music score that would be "as beautiful and compelling as Syd's paintings."
Like his paintings, Richard's music combines sounds from a future "past and present". Aphex Twin meets Vangelis and Jerry Goldsmith.
