The Prayer Closet Volume 3 released!

This is Volume Three of a new series I've started. It's based on my communion with God and is all improvised. In a way, recorded conversations expressed through the language of music. The works are all arranged using piano and a virtual synthesizer instrument called "Omnisphere." This Volume was mixed and mastered by my dear friend Eric Persing

Happy New Year!

2012 for me has seen the culmination of a long-held ambition, creating the score for a forgotten silent film called Cenere.

I explain here the origins and inspirations for this passion project.

Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous 2012!

Barbara Allen

'Although not a Christmas song…I became aware of this 17th century Scottish ballad through the 1951 version of Charles Dickens "Scrooge." This is my solo piano interpretation of it.

In the wonderful scene where a transformed Scrooge has decided after all to come to his nsephew's Christmas party, he repentantly says to Fred's wife, "Can you forgive a pig-headed old fool with no eyes to see with and no ears to hear with all these years?" Barbara Allen was the background music.

Every Christmas I try to do something for someone who can never pay back. This year 2011, any money made from the sale of this song will be donated to one of my favorite charities, Friends of Animals Utah. Every little bit helps.'

The Burn

'I was asked by my church to write a composition that would allow the listener who came to the service to relax, meditate and focus on our Creator. I composed this forty-nine minute electronic soundtrack in a way which I could improvise on top of it with acoustic piano.

The composition is what many will call "Soaking Music." The purpose of Soaking Music is "setting aside of oneself to focus and meditate on God for renewal of strength and peace. My hope is that "The Burn" will achieve this purpose.

The piano part is completely improvised as if performed live in front of an audience. There was no editing involved. I was responding to the soundtrack and my Creator.'

Repercussions Released

This project represents the merging of my Under The Radar Electronica work with Richard Souther's Jazz piano, Classical/Crossover and Electronic Orchestral/Ambient styles. I have always been a "musical chameleon" which usually spells success one season and, "whatever became of him?" the next. I get re-discovered from time to time. I've never gone away and I'm still here. I hope you enjoy the new project!

All the best,

Richard

Credit Where Credit Is Due

I was very pleased to see IMDB (the Internet Movie Database) have included my mother, Katherine Yorke, in their directory. The page features her photo and a few of the close to 100 films she appeared in as a contract player.

This acknowledgment is especially appreciated as her work went largely uncredited during her career. She cut Clark Gable's hair in a film called "Honky Tonk" and got into a barroom brawl along with Judy Garland and Angela Lansbury in "The Harvey Girls". I sure miss her...

Carols, Rhythms and Grooves Remastered

Carols Rhythms & Grooves was a labor of love for me when I recorded it back in the 1990s, but has only been available on cassette. Over the years I've received requests for a CD version and now it's here, edited and remastered to take advantage of the digital format to give a little more clarity and punch. For more information and to order the CD, click here.

Hi Everyone:

After a long absence, I am excited to announce that a new project has finally escaped from my recording studio entitled "A Small Glitch In Time" written under my sometime pseudonym "Under The Radar". It can be previewed on the discs page of my site. Also finally, the documentary I composed the soundtrack for, "Visual Futurist: The Art And Life Of Syd Mead" is now available on DVD through Syd's website. Be sure to check it out. We are very proud of it.

Now that our relocation is almost complete, I promise you'll be hearing many new and exciting projects coming in the not too distant future from us. Check back here often.

Best regards,
Richard

January 18th 2007

We are very excited about the new website and would like to thank our wonderful webmasters Ian and Sue Peters for the great job they've done.

As we move into the new year we would like to make you aware of a new project in the works by Under The Radar. It takes Richard into the realm of IDM and Ambient music. We expect it out at the end of January 2007. Be sure to check back often as we are mixing it at this time!

Richard's latest work can be heard at www.nothingbutnets.net where his music was used in the information video to help raise money for the United Nations campaign "NOTHING BUT NETS". Be sure to watch the video and contribute to a very worthy cause.

Nothing But Nets is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. While the UN Foundation has been working with the UN to fight malaria for years, it was a column that Rick Reilly wrote about malaria in Sports Illustrated, challenging each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed nets -- and the incredible response from thousands of Americans across the country -- that led to the creation the Nothing But Nets campaign.
